Studio Highlights of the 2023-2024 Season!

  • The Sound of Music at Houston Grand Opera featured Peter Theurer as Friderich, Abigail Lee as Marta, and Daniel Karash and Dante Petrozzi as the Friderich and Kurt covers!

  • Both Daniel Karash and Everett Baumgarten performed the roles of Friderich and Kurt on The International Broadway Tour of The Sound of Music throughout Asia!!

  • Grace Gamel, Giselle Jacobs, Sarah Vanlandingham, and Sashai French, made their operatic debuts in Puccini’s La Boheme at Opera in the Heights

  • Michael Karash and Ella Theurer were selected to be members of the HGO Bauer Family HS Voice Studio

  • Ben Evans was nominated for a Tommy Tune for best leading actor in Cinderella at The Kinkaid School

  • Giselle Jacobs and Sashai French (daughter and mother)

    both won first place in their classical division at

    the Greater Houston NATS Competition!

  • Sarah Vanlandingham (soprano 2) and Isabella Wells (alto 2) made it all the way to All-State Choir at the 2024 TMEA All State Festival

  • Elizabeth Hsu was accepted into the voice program at Northewestern University Bienen School of Music, Brian Oliveira was accepted to the theater program at Oberlin College, and Kailee Chan was accepted to the musical theater program at The University of Northern Colorado

  • Beryt Scott attended the Colorado Voice Institute Summer Program

  • Liam Norton attended the Colorado Voice Institute as well as Arts Bridge Vocal Instensive

  • Sabine Lesniewicz and Ella Theurer participated in the Metropolitan Opera High School Summer Voice Program

  • Trevor Pham attended the University of Michigan high school solo voice program

  • Hannah Otness was cast in her first professional show (as an adult) in the ensemble of The Wizard of Oz at Queensbury Theater

Studio Recital

Mezzo-soprano, Monica Isomura, is a professional classical singer and dedicated voice teacher.  She maintains a thriving private voice studio of gifted young and adult singers.  Dr. Isomura has served as the Education Coordinator and Children’s Chorus Master for Opera in the Heights since 2016, and previously taught at HSPVA, Lone Star College-Cyfair, TUTS Humphrey’s School of Musical Theater, HGOco, The Emery/Weiner School, and as a Teaching Artist with Young Audiences of Houston, Inc. She currently leads the Isomura Voice Studio, is a registered NATS teacher, and teaches voice at The Kinkaid School and is the mezzo-soprano soloist and music director at the Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism (HCRJ). She holds a doctorate (DMA) in voice performance from Stony Brook University, a Master’s (MM) in voice from The University of Michigan, and a Bachelor’s (BM) in voice and music education from Northwestern University.

Her students regularly perform with Houston’s premier music ensembles and theater companies, earn leading roles in school productions, receive high honors in voice competitions, and are accepted into the most prestigious programs, colleges, and universities.
